President's MessageOctober 2006Dear Members and Friends: The Colorado Association of Psychotherapists (CAP) is a professional organization which serves to: EDUCATE the public as to the effectiveness, dependability and affordability of unlicensed psychotherapy. PROTECT the public's right to choose from a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional therapeutic approaches. Through our lobbyist we continue to monitor laws that affect Psychotherapists. PROMOTE innovation in the field of psychotherapy. PROVIDE essential legal, theoretical and practical information and instruction to its members. There has never been a better time to be in the field of psychotherapy and the healing arts! More and more the public is interested in taking charge of their lives, healing their past and acquiring the skills necessary to fashion the kinds of lives that they wish to have. There is no shortage of clients! Everyone you know is a potential client for one of your colleagues. While we can not work with our own network of friends and family, we can certainly encourage them to seek help and support. We can and should recommend each other. Get to know each other and the type of work that other therapists do. Your practice is a business..learn to run your business for success! It is definitely possible to make a six figure income from working part time at your practice. I know this is true, because I have done it in the past. Today my school and this association requires so much time that I only see a few clients. I am constantly referring callers to other psychotherapists, so the clients are out there. Your success is only limited by your therapy skills, intention, marketing skills and your capacity to receive. Attend the CAP Event ! Print the CAP Event Document and send it in! Somatic Experiencing – A Powerful, Body-centered Approach To Healing Presented by Paul Chubbuck, M.S., S.E.P. Stressful or life-threatening experiences arouse vast amounts of survival energy and emotion. When people aren't able to avoid the danger and can't shake the strong emotions afterwards, that survival energy can become stuck in their nervous systems, causing suffering for the rest of their lives. But the symptoms of trauma are not primarily a psychological problem, but instead a physiological and an energetic one. Trauma resides in the highly aroused state of the nervous system—today. If that can be discharged, people can recover, often getting significant relief quickly. If you or someone you know has experienced trauma and feel stuck in it, this may be the answer you have been looking for. Paul has a Masters in Counseling and is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® (S.E.P.). CAP Board still needs some new members: We are looking for 2 or 3 new board members, including someone who could be our treasurer. The Board meetings take place 200 Lincoln Street in Longmont. 6:30 pm –8:30 pm. I am looking for an office condo in Denver and hope to move 1/2 of the Board meeting in 2007 to the Denver area. The Market Place is here ! www.coloradopsychotherapists.com The Colorado Association Psychotherapist (CAP) has created the Market Place. We have spent the last few months developing excellent search engine recognition of our web site www.coloradopsychotherapists.com We will continue to market our website to professionals and to the public. Our intention is to create a Colorado based psychotherapy site that has benefits for both the public and professionals. The Colorado Association of Psychotherapists has been in existence for over fourteen years. We are an advocacy group protecting the rights of psychotherapists to practice and the right of the public to choose psychotherapists with safety. Our long history of working with the legislature has been expanded to focus on the development of psychotherapists and their practices. We have created the Market Place for you!
